Sometimes (like here or here) we find a really interesting story relating to “QSL of the Day” and today (EP1JY/AM) is no exception. Over on the social media side of DX-World [1, 2] we picked up on this gem and reproduce parts of it here.
I was fortunate to meet King Hussein twice – once in Jordan and once in Tehran, Iran.
When the Amateur Radio Society of Iran learned that King Hussein would be attending the festivities, we approached Iran’s Post and Telegraph to issue him a license – EP1JY. This was granted and we were fortunate that King Hussein was able to fit in a meeting with local amateurs during his time in Tehran.
When he departed Iran to fly back to Jordan, he got on the air as EP1JY/AM while piloting his Boeing 707.

J’ai eu la chance de rencontrer le roi Hussein à deux reprises – une fois en Jordanie et une fois à Téhéran, en Iran.
Lorsque l’Amateur Radio Society of Iran a appris que le roi Hussein assisterait aux festivités, nous avons approché Iran’s Post and Telegraph pour lui délivrer une licence – EP1JY. Cela a été accordé et nous avons eu la chance que le roi Hussein ait pu organiser une réunion avec des amateurs locaux pendant son séjour à Téhéran.
Quand il a quitté l’Iran pour rentrer en Jordanie, il a pris les ondes sous le nom EP1JY/AM alors qu’il pilotait son Boeing 707.
