The Bulgarian Polar Research Vessel “Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodiy (RSV-421)” is owned by a consortium consisting of the Naval Academy, the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. The Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii was ceremoniously christened and commissioned into the Bulgarian Navy inventory on July 27, 2021.
Before the ship’s first polar mission, it was repaired, modernised and refitted in Varna. On December 27, 2022, RSV 421 set sail from Varna Marine Station, marking the beginning of the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition to the Bulgarian Polar Base on Livingston Island, part of the South Shetland Islands. The ship was loaded with building materials and equipment needed for the construction of a laboratory as part of the Bulgarian Base.
After a 127-day voyage to the Bulgarian base on Livingston Island and back, the first Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) returned home, docking Tuesday May 2nd 2023 at the Varna Marine Station.
In the way back home, the Bulgarian naval Research Vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) crossed the Ionian Sea along its southern boundary with the Mediterranean, sailing eastwards, in the evening hours of April 23, 2023.
Now the Polar ship is docked at Bulgarian port city of Varna (on the Black Sea) after fully completing its participation in the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition to Livingston Island, Antarctica
With the sailing of the first military Research Vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) to Antarctica, Bulgaria has proven itself to be a Maritime and Polar Nation, said Prof. Hristo Pimpirev last Tuesday, May 2nd, in Varna, when at the local Marine Station he did wait to meet the returning RSV 421 which docked at 10 a.m. After the ship docks, scientists will take the samples collected during the expedition and start examining them.

Le navire de recherche polaire bulgare ‘Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodiy (RSV-421)’ appartient à un consortium composé de l’Académie navale, de l’Université St Kliment Ohridski de Sofia et l’Institut bulgare de l’Antarctique. Le Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii a été cérémonieusement baptisé et mis en service dans l’inventaire de la marine bulgare le 27 juillet 2021.
Avant la première mission polaire du navire, il a été réparé, modernisé et réaménagé à Varna. Le 27 décembre 2022, le RSV 421 a appareillé de la station marine de Varna, marquant le début de la 31e expédition antarctique bulgare vers la base polaire bulgare sur l’île Livingston, partie des îles Shetland du Sud. Le navire était chargé de matériaux de construction et d’équipements nécessaires à la construction d’un laboratoire dans le cadre de la base bulgare.
Après un voyage de 127 jours vers la base bulgare sur l’île de Livingston et retour, le premier navire de recherche navale bulgare Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) est rentré chez lui, amarré le mardi 2 mai 2023 à la station marine de Varna.
Sur le chemin du retour, le navire de recherche naval bulgare Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) a traversé la mer Ionienne le long de sa frontière sud avec la Méditerranée, naviguant vers l’est, dans la soirée du 23 avril 2023.
Le navire polaire est maintenant amarré dans la ville portuaire bulgare de Varna (sur la mer Noire) après avoir entièrement terminé sa participation à la 31e expédition antarctique bulgare vers l’île Livingston, Antarctique
Avec la navigation du premier navire de recherche militaire Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) vers l’Antarctique, la Bulgarie s’est révélée être une nation maritime et polaire, a déclaré Prof. Hristo Pimpirev mardi dernier, le 2 mai, à Varna, lorsqu’il a attendu à la station marine locale de rencontrer le retour du RSV 421 qui a accosté à 10 heures. Après l’accostage du navire, les scientifiques prendront les échantillons collectés pendant l’expédition et commencer à les examiner.
