All my flights went according to schedule. On my way, I was Dave’s (AH6HY) guest in Honolulu for the night of Oct 26. We spent a very nice evening together, chatting about amateur radio and IOTA, and coming to know each other better. I am very grateful to him for all his support.
I arrived in Weno yesterday afternoon just before 4pm, and all my luggage made it as well. My contact picked me up at the airport and we went to purchase some supplies for my anticipated voyage. Following this, we met with some of the local leaders who know the Chief of Pulap and were interested to find out more about my project and the benefits for the local community there. It is 8:30am now when I’m posting this message from the hotel where I’ll stay at least one more night.
I am scheduled to meet again with the local leaders on Monday morning. Their support is absolutely necessary, and I hope to get it. The boat that is supposed to take me to Pulap will arrive in Weno tonight. It will have to be refueled Monday, and I’m not convinced that it will sail out the very same day. Meanwhile, there shouldn’t be any problem to purchase on Monday everything else I need and want to take with me for the voyage. However, we’ll have to work hard getting the generator.
My contact told me that since captain Callistus was from Satawal, he knew very well their Chief and they had a close relationship. Consequently, he didn’t inform the Chief of my project in advance, because he thought that it was unnecessary. Now that the captain is out of the picture, my contact suggested to me that I should just show up. I don’t think that this is a good idea, and so I’m working to obtain the Chief’s permission prior to arriving on the island.

Tous mes vols se sont déroulés comme prévu. Sur mon chemin, j’étais l’invité de Dave (AH6HY) à Honolulu pour la nuit du 26 octobre. Nous avons passé une très belle soirée ensemble, discutant de radio amateur et d’IOTA, et apprenant à mieux nous connaître. Je lui suis très reconnaissant pour tout son soutien.
Je suis arrivé à Weno hier après-midi juste avant 16h, et tous mes bagages sont arrivés également. Mon contact est venu me chercher à l’aéroport et nous sommes allés acheter des fournitures pour mon voyage prévu. Suite à cela, nous avons rencontré certains des dirigeants locaux qui connaissent le chef de Pulap et souhaitaient en savoir plus sur mon projet et les avantages pour la communauté locale. Il est maintenant 8h30 lorsque je poste ce message depuis l’hôtel où je vais rester au moins une nuit de plus.
Je dois rencontrer à nouveau les dirigeants locaux lundi matin. Leur soutien est absolument nécessaire et j’espère l’obtenir. Le bateau qui est censé m’emmener à Pulap arrivera à Weno ce soir. Il faudra le ravitailler lundi et je ne suis pas convaincu qu’il repartira le jour même. En attendant, il ne devrait y avoir aucun problème pour acheter lundi tout ce dont j’ai besoin et que je veux emporter avec moi pour le voyage. Cependant, nous devrons travailler dur pour obtenir le générateur.
Mon contact m’a dit que comme le capitaine Callistus était de Satawal, il connaissait très bien leur chef et ils entretenaient une relation étroite. Par conséquent, il n’a pas informé le chef de mon projet à l’avance, car il pensait que ce n’était pas nécessaire. Maintenant que le capitaine n’est plus là, mon contact m’a suggéré de me présenter. Je ne pense pas que ce soit une bonne idée et je travaille donc pour obtenir la permission du chef avant d’arriver sur l’île.
