I will arrive one or two days prior to the contest and operate on SSB and FT8 as much as I can. There’s also a chance I will use a shorter call during the contest – details regarding this will follow shortly. I know JW can be challenging from certain locations so I’m open for scheduling QSOs if someone wants this.

NEWS UPDATE – On February 13, Alexey returned to Progress Station from Vostok. He plans to remain there until March 24, then one more return to both Novolazarevskaya base and Bellingshausen base before finally leaving Antarctica.
DECEMBER 28, 2020 – Alexey has been active as RI01ANT since December 26. Activity tends to be on FT8; 40-30-17m. A reminder that he is active from Progress and Vostok research stations (not at the same time!) until end of May 2021.
DECEMBER 3, 2020 – First reported a few days ago (see below), RX6A/MM has been taking advantage of decent radio propagation of late and is QRV on 10-12 & 17m FT8 when time permits. The ice-breaker is making steady progress to Progress – see here.
NOVEMBER 29, 2020 – Alexey, RX6A will soon be working at Progress and Vostok stations in Antarctica. Approximate schedule is:
December 1 to 20, 2020 as RX6A/MM on board ice-breaker Akademik Trshnikov.
December 25, 2020 to May 30, 2021 – activity as RI01ANT from Progress and Vostok throughout this period.

Terry wrote: «This was in my late father’s collection. He worked in a small radio store in 1925 in Whitesboro, Texas. The card was addressed to his boss J.C. Bass at 106 Charter Street Whitesboro, Texas. My father would have been 17 years of age at that time and his Ham activity is summarized as follows: The American Radio Relay League Amateur 5AFD 12/7/1925 to 12/31/1926 (his old QSL card on the right), then W5AFD 1/8/1932 to 1/7/1933 and W6KQX6 1/7/1946 to 6/7/1951. Theo“Ted”Denton was born in 1908 in Whitesboro, Texas. As a boy, like most of us, he became attracted to radio and what makes it work. The idea of having his own station empowered him to overcome the lack of any money or materials and he became successfully licensed as 5AFD about 1923. Like all radio amateurs of the day, he built his own equipment.
By 1928 he updated his exciter to a three stage Meissner design achieving contacts all around the U.S. His station became well known to locals and he was talked about and bragged about. As my grandmother relates: “Everyone who was anyone bragged about my Ted”.
By checking N6AHY on QRZ.com you can read all about Theo “Ted” Denton, a real pioneer on Ham radio. It’s always very nice to recall our colleagues who a century ago really were pioneers.
Arctic Expedition 1925. The card was issued from contact at Etah, Greenland, but based upon the postage stamp it was mailed in Canada.

The objectives supported by the Navy and the National Geographic Society were to determine the full capabilities of radio North of the auroral belt and to explore the Northern reaches by air. In the summer of 1925 the Bowdoin, captained by MacMillan led the Peary, a minesweeper enlisted as transport and captained by Zenith president Eugene F. McDonald, to a bay again near Etah in northern Greenland. Three amphibious aircraft were assembled on site and directed by Richard E. Byrd. Severely limited by weather and mechanical problems, the aircraft only accomplished some seven missions within their limited range, and did not actually fly over the pole. The outstanding accomplishment of the expedition was in the sphere of radio. Utilizing short waves, the expedition was in consistent contact with the outside world throughout the journey, to the delight of the amateurs who were able to work them. The phenomenal success proved to the Navy that short waves were definitely superior to the long and ultra long waves on which the fleets had been relying.
Etah (see pic aside) is an abandoned settlement in the Qaasuitsup municipality in northern Greenland. It was was used in the past as a base camp for several Arctic expeditions, including Knud Rasmussen’s expeditions to the northern coast of Greenland and a starting point of discovery expeditions to the North Pole.
Etah was also the landing site of the last migration of the Inuit from the Canadian Arctic. The village was located on the shores of Foulk Fjord near Reindeer Point. The huts of the former village are still standing. Today, Etah is seldom visited

Eventually, it will be the turn of the lesser wanted DXCC entities to feature as header images and that’s where we’d like your help or suggestion. When the time comes we’ll update this post, but ideally a reader provides an image showcasing their own DXCC entity. We’ll give advance notice when, for example, it’s the turn of Paraguay or East Malaysia or Taiwan to appear.

DECEMBER 17, 2020 – Tev, TA1HZ has announced that he will be working on Ascension Island throughout 2021 and hopes to be QRV as ZD8HZ when time permits.
Will try to be on the air using a Yaesu FT991 HF rig running 100w to a Windom wire antenna (80m-10m). As I will be working on a project, my on-the-air time will be on my free time.

17 DÉCEMBRE 2020 – Tev, TA1HZ a annoncé qu’il travaillera sur l’île de l’Ascension tout au long de 2021 et espère devenir QRV en tant que
ZD8HZ lorsque le temps le permet.
J’essaierai d’être en ondes en utilisant une plate-forme Yaesu FT991 HF fonctionnant de 100w à une antenne filaire Windom (80m-10m). Comme je travaillerai sur un projet, mon temps d’antenne sera pendant mon temps libre.

[NOVEMBER 3, 2020] David, ZD7DC and Daniel, ZD7DL run the Prince Andrew Secondary School amateur radio club on Saint Helena with the principle aim of engaging the younger generation on the island to show them what ham radio is.
Look out for ZD7PAS mostly on 20m SSB; sometimes tutoring students with David or Daniel overseeing activities. They run an IC-706MKII and usually a G5RV antenna. QSL via ZD7DL.

JANUARY 17, 2021 – Starting mid-February 2021 (lasting 90 days), Tom is returning to Wake Island. Activity again expected on 40 / 20m SSB when time permits.
NOVEMBER 2, 2020 – Tom, NL7RR is a contractor working on Wake island. His KH9/NL7RR operation is time permitting, but does hope to operate (daily) between 06:00 – 08:00 UTC on 20 or 40 SSB. At this time, he is travelling to Hawaii for a week-long rest then returning to Wake.

to say that he and Tom, NL7WK are assisting Tom with LoTW uploads and QSL duties, both of which should be available soon; cards are being worked on and printed.
